Tom Huangpu is an indie-folk singer-songwriter, who values authenticity and vulnerability in his songwriting. Tom believes the most important thing in the world is connection and understanding. He uses his music to convey and evoke feelings and experiences that words alone can’t describe. Tom’s writing draws from artists like Lizzy McAlpine, Leith Ross, and Ryan Beatty. Glimpses of their honest lyricism and lush production can be heard on his past singles and debut EP, “what i think i know” Tom is an expert at telling honest stories of his experiences and producing a sonic atmosphere that elevates them even further.

Now based in Boston, Tom is originally from Philadelphia. Tom grew up playing piano, violin, and singing in his school choir. Music was always present, but never meaningful. He started to resent practicing and performing. But in high school, he discovered singer-songwriters. These artists could turn a single moment into a symphony. It helped Tom find the beauty in music. He realized that every sound, whether it be a single note plucked on the violin, or a chorus of powerful singers, was music that told a story and conveyed a feeling. So Tom started writing his own songs. He talked mostly about the profound complexities of high school love. But his writing slowly morphed into something more personal and raw. Writing helped Tom process things from the grief of losing people, to the internalized racism of being Asian-American, to falling in love. Aside from developing his artistry, writing helped him realize what he deserved as a person. He began performing these songs at open mics and coffee houses in Philly, before applying and being accepted to the illustrious Berklee College of Music.

At Berklee, Tom received degrees in Songwriting and Independent Recording and Production. He collaborated with a wide array of artists and creatives, honing his sound along the way. Tom has always had big visions for his art. Being in community with so many talented artists allowed him to find like-minded individuals that could help him realize his dreams. Tom has two music videos on Youtube, where his songs are elevated even further, using colors and imagery to tell his story. With his band, Tom performed entrancing sets at Boston venues like The Red Room and The Lilypad. With the help of other producers and engineers, Tom finished his second EP.

Tom is in the process of releasing his second EP, “for a reason,” a project that explores grief, love, and how those things have shaped him. The first single “someone new” and title track “for a reason” were released in December, 2025, with the rest of the EP following in January, 2026, garnering massive attention and success. Continuing his career, his debut album will be released later in 2026 and will feature a new era of Tom’s journey, both musically and personally. Although Tom writes to better understand himself, he hopes he can connect with his listeners and mean something to them.
